On Friday, TV Asahi revealed plans for a television anime adaptation of Honobu Yonezawa's Shōshimin mystery novel series. Set to air on the channel's NUMAnimation block in July, the anime is titled "Shōshimin Series" in Japanese, with the English title "How to Become Ordinary," as depicted in the accompanying visual.

Mamoru Kanbe, known for directing anime such as Elfen Lied, The Promised Neverland, and You and Me., is at the helm of the anime adaptation, working with studio Lapin Track. Toshiya Ono, recognized for The Promised Neverland, Shadows House, and 86, is overseeing the series scripts. Atsushi Saitō, responsible for character design in works like Black Fox and Love Live! Superstar!!, is contributing character designs, while Takahiro Obata, known for Cinderella Nine and The Promised Neverland, is handling the music composition.

The anime's cast includes Shūichirō Umeda as Jōgorō Kobato and Hina Yomiya as Yuki Osanai.

The anime will bring to life the Shunki Gentei Ichigo Tart Jiken and Kaki Gentei Tropical Parfait Jiken novels, part of the series. Published by Tokyo Sogensha, the former came out in December 2004, and the latter in April 2006. The series features other stories, including Shuki Gentei Kuri Kinton Jiken and Paris Macaron no Nazo. The latest novel, Tōki Gentei Bonbon Chocolat Jiken, is set to release in late April.

The narrative follows Jōgorō Kobato, aiming for a quiet life after a painful past. Joining forces with Yuki Osanai, both wish for an ordinary existence but find themselves entangled in mysteries and disasters during their high school days.

Manga adaptations include Anko Manjūya's Shunki Gentei Ichigo Tart Jiken (2008-2009, two volumes) and Omiomi's two-volume adaptation of Kaki Gentei Tropical Parfait Jiken (2010-2011).

Yonezawa, known for the Kotenbu (Classic Literature Club) series, began with Hyōka in 2001. Kyoto Animation adapted some stories into the Hyōka anime in 2012. Yen Press has published Yonezawa's Black Dungeon Castle novel in English.
